“
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Reem Olaby for their invaluable guidance in
preparing my master's defense. I watched a video by Dr. Olaby illustrates how to prepare
defense
presentation slides. It was a game
-
changer for me. It saved me a significant amount of time and
instilled the confidence that I was not overlooking any crucial aspect of my research. In the one
-
on
-
one mentor session, we discussed the slides in
-
dep
th, what to present and how to present, and
what to skip to give the committee a chance to ask me about and answer confidently. She gave
me many examples that suit my research and the University's requirements. We also discussed
how to organize my time in
a way to finish my presentation on time (10 minutes in my case) and
to focus on all the important aspects of my project. Her feedback on the slides was super helpful,
professional, and compelling; I applied almost everything she said to my slides. I am con
fident
that the support I got from Dr. Olaby will significantly contribute to the success of my defense.
One of the points Dr. Olaby mentioned in her video and stressed in our session was the importance of anticipating questions from the committee and prep
aring suitable slides to answer
them. I have always heard my professors mention that some leaders were exceptional in their
defense presentations, and I am sure being well
-
prepared with anticipated questions is one of the
aspects they consider. Not to for
get the mock defense opportunity, which, in my opinion, is the
most critical aspect of this defense mentorship. I am excited to have the chance to practice my
defense ahead of time and have professional feedback and comments. I am sure this experience
will
increase my confidence, lower my stress, and prepare me well to help me handle my defense
day well. I can't recommend the mentorship with Dr. Reem enough for any graduate leader who
wants to be exception
al!

“The mock thesis was the most helpful service that enabled me to succeed in my defense. The
discussion was great and it was a very special day for
me.
Everyone was happy with the
presentati
on and commented on the coordination and the information added that it was consistent
and integrated.
Of course,
this is thanks to Dr. Reem's efforts in helping me with my slides and
enhancing them. She met with me for more than an hour to go over all the
suggested
enhancements and
amendments
in addition to going over the data analysis, interpretation and
discussion.
Also,
the second meeting which was the mock thesis itself was very helpful because
both Dr. Rawan and Dr. Reem made it feel exactly like the r
eal thesis defense day. Because of
that 2 hours meeting I did not feel afraid or nervous when defending my thesis and my examiners
ended up asking me the same questions that Dr. Reem and Dr. Rawan asked and actually their
questions were harder. I broke the
fear barrier after the mock thesis and followed their advice to
the tee, that is why everything was easy and simple during my real thesis defense. I can't thank
both Dr. Reem and Dr. Rawan enough for their invaluable support. If you are defending soon,
th
is service is a must to guarantee succ
ess.”

I have worked with Reem Al Olaby advising her and a group of cohorts designing a project of her own initiative. I have found Reem to be energetic, proactive and highly driven. She is also very inquisitive and a strong will to learn. She has shown good team management skills as well as leadership skills. Her persistence and determination drove the project (awareness campaign) through the initial sluggish phase.

Reem participated in our inaugural doctoral leader seminar. All of us were tremendously impressed by her research and by her commitment to a complex and time-consuming methodology in order to reach a useful and very valuable result. I feel confident that Reem will mature into a very productive researcher with the potential to make an important contribution to biotech.

Reem is a brilliant, creative scientist who is very devoted to performing research on infectious diseases. Reem is also one of the best public speakers I have ever seen. Very few researchers can give a scientific presentation of the same caliber.

Through the years I spent in Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University, I was honorably able to be engaged with Reem in different activities, where I was directly reporting to her. I can frankly say that Reem was not only a role model for me, but she was also a role model for most of my class; As she was highly energetic, initiative, a good manager, speaker and junior scientist, besides being friendly with all people. I recommend Reem for any post that requires a pioneer.

Reem filled the room with her warmth, energy and understanding – something not easily achieved when presenting virtually to a gathered audience! She drew us into her orbit and made us feel safe. Her ability to blend science and pragmatic know-how moved us beyond the fear of holding difficult conversations with colleagues, to having deeper knowledge of the psychology and physiology involved. Our audience came away with both theory and practical tools to take away and use in real life. Thank you Reem. You are a gem!"

"We had a wonderful training session with Reem in March 2025. It was entitled Emotional Intelligence and, in the short 2.5 hour session, we had a whistle-stop tour to gain useful techniques to control stress and create closer relationships in our own and professional lives. She managed to fit so much in and the session had lots of practical guidance and advice that we could take away and start adapting and using which was fantastic. As well as that, Reem gave us lots of suggestions of further reading and research we may like to investigate after the session."

"I have always been able to go to Dr. Olaby when I needed help, whether it be for a friendly conversation, feedback on my presentations and research, or for ideas in teaching and research. Dr. Olaby is always a reliable source of information, kindness, and intellectual rigor. Our workplace is more enjoyable and of higher quality because she is a part of it."
Dr. Christine Deere Assistant Professor of Biology – CHS-CNSU
“Reem’s contributions to the Faculty Development series, Mikomiko, have been invaluable! It’s always wonderful to have faculty share expertise that will no doubt make life easier. Reem’s excitement to learn outside of her discipline is infectious! Her willingness to be part of the Writing Enrichment Curriculum (WEC) has led her to be an integral member of the WEC Committee on campus. I am thrilled that she has embraced WEC and plans to employ some of the principles in her own classroom. “
Dr. Jill Dahlman Assistant Professor of English- CHS - CNSU
“Dr. Olaby has continued to be a valuable employee at CNU-CHS. She is an inspiration to junior faculty, especially in the areas of teaching and scholarship. “

“Reem has been a consistent and constant support for me as I begin my teaching career. Her positive energy and confidence in me have made a huge difference in my own confidence and ability to adapt during the semester when unexpected changes undoubtedly happen. I have been lucky enough to co-teach with her, and her system for setting up the class, organizing lectures and schedules, and her creativity in developing class activities that are engaging and meaningful for the students have been such a wonderful example to follow and have sparked my own creativity which I apply in my other courses as well. Reem has played a large part in shaping the way I approach both the organization of my courses and my interactions with students, and I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor and colleague to learn from as I transition from a research-focused career path to a teaching-focused one.”
Dr. Emily Mills-Ko Assistant Professor of Neurology & Biology – CHS-CNSU
" Dr. Reem Al Olaby has been a friend and colleague to me since July 2019. She has guided and advised me over the years, for which I am grateful. I have learned from Dr. Al Olaby professionally in the following ways:
1) She has taught me efficient ways of creating asynchronous classes and how to use technology to my advantage.
2) Dr. Al Olaby is consistently humble in her delivery of subjects of which she is knowledgeable. I am grateful that she is willing to share her knowledge with others for the betterment of the institution and students.”

“Dr. Reem Olaby is one of the most helpful and kind faculty members on our campus. She joined the faculty in 2018 and immediately volunteered to teach an on-line course in Introductory Biochemistry. She taught herself the use of Zoom as a teaching platform as well as Edpuzzle. She was the only one on our campus (College of Health Science) that was teaching an online course. Some others have following her steps since then.
Then came the Pandemic in 2020 when our university (and the rest of the world) had to switch to synchronous and asynchronous modes of content delivery! Dr. Olaby became an assert to our college and the go-to person in the use of Zoom and Edpuzzle. She was patient and kind in her instructions – always with a smile. Being a new college, we do not have a dedicated office (or personnel) for technology support. She is valued and loved by all. I highly recommend her for this recognition.”1) She has taught me efficient ways of creating asynchronous classes and how to use technology to my advantage.
